Job overview:


The Senior Financial Accountant will support the Accounting and Reporting teams and play an integral role in the day to day running of the business.


The Company and most of the senior executives are based in our Soho offices, London, with a further team based in New York and San Francisco. The primarily London-based Finance team provide a centralised accounting service for both the UK and US teams. The majority of this role will be “hands-on” interacting with the business and auditors to take ownership of the balance sheet, including preparation of underlying workbooks and assisting the Director of External Reporting and Sr. Director, Controller (both US-based) with reporting and disclosure requirements. The role will require flexibility, strong attention to detail and an entrepreneurial outlook.


Location: Hybrid in our Central London Office (2 days per week).


Reports to: Associate Director, Financial Controller.


Roles and responsibilities

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):


  • Working closely with the Associate Director, Financial Controller and Director of External Reporting along with other members of the finance function and the wider company
  • Performing monthly close activities including preparation of balance sheet reconciliations, journal entries primarily for accruals, intercompany charges, and prepayments, and performing analytical reviews
  • Audit preparation for quarterly (10-Q) and year-end filings (10-K) under US GAAP
  • Assist with quarterly share-based payment, lease obligations and det calculations
  • Preparation of monthly US GAAP reporting and annual FRS statutory accounts
  • Involvement in tax compliance matters in both the UK & US
  • Supporting the Finance team in the development, implementation and maintenance of the financial controls and processes, including SOX
  • Any ad hoc requests for analysis


Candidate Profile:


The successful candidate will likely have a strong academic background, and will have a recognised accounting qualification (ACA), with a couple of years of PQE, preferably in the biotech industry.


  • Big 4 practice (preferred) trained ACA qualified, (with PQE)
  • High quality academic background
  • Operates as a self-starter, with a lot of initiative
  • Attentive to detail, data integrity and accuracy are key attributes for this role
  • Familiarity with the requirements of SOX/experience working in a SOX environment preferred
  • Fast paced, ambitious and with a strong work ethic
