Director of People & Culture

General Summary:


Reporting to the Head of Operations, the Director of People & Culture will oversee the Human Resources functions of Nue Life. As the organization is poised for continued fast-paced growth, it is important that the incumbent have expertise in recruitment, development and retention of top talent and promote a passionate, creative, and high-performance culture. As part of the Nue Life's leadership team, the incumbent will play a key role in serving as a cultural ambassador of Nue Life’s mission and is able to identify external talent that will fit the culture and pace of Nue Life. The incumbent for this role must be willing to roll up their sleeves in performing daily tasks in a fast-paced environment.


Essential and Other Responsibilities (performs other duties as assigned):


  • Provide full scope HR expertise, coaching, and partnership to the Head of Operations and others within the organization on hiring, promotions, terminations, employee engagement, organizational design and change, communications, performance management and career development.
  • Manage the organization’s PEO relationship to ensure the PEO’s deliverables are being met.
  • Develop and execute a framework to recruit, develop and retain high performing, passionate employees.
  • Assist with the recruitment process by identifying candidates, performing reference checks, and issuing employment offers.
  • Create a performance management strategy that supports a culture of feedback-driven development, and continuous learning and growth.
  • Develop an employee engagement strategy that includes the delivery and analysis of any needed surveys.
  • Build and maintain up-to-date HR policies that are simple, clear and easy-to-understand.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for grievances and investigations.
  • Provide insight on the organization’s compensation structure and pay policies (hiring, merit, and promotions).
  • Lead the organization’s compliance with applicable employment laws and regulations including, but not limited to, reporting requirements relating to the Equal Employment Opportunity, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, Employee Retirement Income Security Act, the Department of Labor, worker compensation, and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) in order to minimize organizational risk/exposure.
  • Maintain employee files and records in electronic and paper form.
  • Support all internal and external HR related inquiries or requests.
  • Perform or support the orientations and update records of new staff
  • Keep up-to-date with the latest HR trends and best practices.


Safety Responsibilities


  • Adhere to all policies pertaining to physical safety and security. 
  • Report any potential or actual violations to Security.


Qualifications and Experience Requirements:


The successful candidate will be a leader with a passion for identifying and developing top talent and significant experience building HR and talent processes which support the development of a high performance, creative culture. To be successful in this role, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. 

  • Be an excellent communicator – internally and externally (with junior level staff through to executives and Board members).
  • Have outstanding skills in interpersonal relationship building and coaching. 
  • Have deep knowledge and experience in recruitment, selection, organizational design, and talent. 
  • Have extensive experience in the administration of benefits & compensation programs and the building of key HR policies & talent practices (employee engagement, internal communication activation, team building, etc.).
  • Have 7+ years of progressive leadership experience in Human Resources roles. 
  • Exposure to labor law and employment equity regulations.
  • Highly computer literate with capability in email, MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and related business and communication tools (TEAMS, Slack, Zoom, etc.).


Education and/or Credentialing Requirements:


  • Four-year degree from an accredited university or college (finance, accounting, human resources or related preferred). 
  • NOTE: Experience beyond requirement will be considered in lieu of a four-year degree.
  •  SHRM membership (PHR/SPHR or its equivalent is preferred.  


More About the Position:


  • The Director of People & Culture is a full-time exempt position. 
  • The salary for this position is between $110,000 – $125,000 annually, depending on experience. 
  • Benefits include: 60% health insurance premium coverage for employees, transportation and cell phone subsidies, and a commitment to work/life balance. 
  • Occasional evenings and out of area travel may be necessary. 
  • Position involves regular computer and telephone use plus some minimal lifting. 
  • The position will be based at the Nue Life office in Miami, Florida. 
  • All staff are working remotely until further notice.
