Expression of Interest: Full Time Research Officer within the Clinical Psychedelic Research Lab at Monash

The Clinical Psychedelic Research Lab at Monash is inviting expressions of interest for a full time Research Officer with substantial prior experience working in human research trials.


The Research Officer will work in a rapidly expanding and ambitious program of psychedelic research, contributing to core activities associated with pioneering psychedelic treatments, and collaborating with leading investigators and teams locally and internationally.


Note: This role is advertised as Full Time, although an 0.8FTE part time position may be negotiated in some cases. Also, this role is advertised as level HEW6, although subject to experience and qualification, a higher level role may be negotiated.

The Research Officer will provide a variety of high-quality research services to support the operations of the Clinical Psychedelic Research Lab, with a particular focus on coordinating numerous practical and administrative aspects of clinical psychedelic trials. This may include working with others in the lab to:

• Coordinate the planning, conduct, and completion of one or more clinical trials;

• Manage members of the research and therapist teams;

• Manage the administrative and compliance aspects of allocated studies;

• Manage the recruitment, communication, coordination, and assessment of participants;

• Contribute to study documentation, eCRF, and the development of clinical trial protocols, Human Ethics Research Committee submissions, and clinical trial notification submissions;

• Procurement of site equipment, and Investigational Product permits and imports;

• Preparation of internal and external reports, presentations, and publications;


Reporting Line: The position reports to Dr Paul Liknaitzky


ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

Education/Qualifications

1. The appointee will have a degree in psychological sciences, mental health research, or a closely related field; or experience in managing/coordinating human clinical trials.


Knowledge and Skills

2. Previous experience (minimum one year) in the design, preparation, and execution of human research trials, with preference given to psychological or mental health research experience, or clinical trial coordination experience;

3. Demonstrated attention to detail, critical thinking, and thoroughness in research and communication;

4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, a highly responsive communication style, the ability to produce clear, succinct reports and documents, and the ability to interact with a diverse range of stakeholders and negotiate positive outcomes to complex issues;

5. Excellent organisational skills, including the ability to set priorities, manage time and plan work to meet deadlines;

6. Familiarity with the research literature, trial design, and treatment protocols associated with clinical psilocybin and MDMA research;

7. Excellent project coordination skills with the ability to support projects through to completion in accordance with agreed standards and timeframes;

8. Demonstrated ability to work as an effective member of a team, as well as the ability to exercise high levels of independence, judgement and initiative;

9. An understanding of research ethics, confidentiality, privacy and information handling principles;

10. A high level of computer literacy, including demonstrated experience in learning and adopting new software packages as required.
