Research Therapist

Clerkenwell Health is an innovative and leading Research Organisation specialising in the delivery of Clinical Trials of psychedelic treatments and psychedelic-assisted therapy using its collaborative Contract Research Organisation, extensive Site Network, and leading Therapy Practitioner Training Programme.


This role will involve training and delivery of psychedelic-assisted therapy in a clinical trial setting. The successful candidate may also have the opportunity to be involved in other trial-related, contract research organisation (CRO), and training programme related activities.


This role will involve hybrid working, with the expectation of spending at least 3 days per week at our clinical research facility (central London).  


Main Duties


Delivering Therapeutic Interventions

1. To provide therapeutic interventions with fidelity to the relevant therapy manual.

2. Familiarity with therapy manuals, clinical trial protocols, and allocated documents on the Quality Management System and complete training and competency assessments associated with the relevant therapy training manuals.

3. To identify and report concerns around participant eligibility.

4. To work effectively independently, and with the study team, to ensure clinical practice is delivered as defined in the clinical trial protocol and according to the relevant accrediting body standards and Good Clinical Practice (ICH-GCP) standards.

5. To undertake risk assessment and management of participants and support colleagues on aspects of risk assessment and management.

6. To share observations and reflections that may lead to development of methods of best practice.

7. To maintain the highest standards of clinical record keeping, including electronic data entry and recording.

8. To maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislation, policies and issues in relation to clinical work


Supervision

9. To be a reflective practitioner: in and on practice and engage with an ongoing process of professional development.

10. To engage with regular clinical supervision and ad-hoc peer-to-peer supervision with fellow therapists.


Other Responsibilities

11. Support engagement of the therapist practitioner community

12. Administrative tasks across the therapy function, including clinical research facility delivery, Contract Research Organisation training and delivery tasks, and other therapy function projects 13. Support development of internal and client-facing materials associated with therapy function activities.

14. Management of therapist recording systems and processing, and therapist equipment.

15. Overseeing therapist recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing materials delegation and completion logs

16. Supporting the co-ordination of Public and Patient Involvement activities. 


Personal Specification

Essential

  • Core profession in mental health e.g., psychologist, counsellor, accredited psychological therapist, psychiatric nurse, medical doctor
  • Registered with a healthcare professional regulatory body  
  • Excellent communication skills
  • High proficiency in evidence-based therapeutic interventions
  • Skills in building rapport/alliance with clients/participants and other core therapy skills.
  • Skills in self-management, including time management.
  • Understanding of legislation in relation to various client groups and mental health.
  • Capable of being individually accountable for own clinical interventions.
  • Willingness to be flexible and adaptable.
  • Post qualification experience delivering therapy of at least 450 hours
  • Experience of working with patients who present with complex mental health needs

  • Commitment to ongoing professional development 


Desireable

  • Professional training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and/or Cognitive Behavioural Therapy 
  • Knowledge experience in clinical trials, including Clinical Trials of Investigational Medical Products (CTIMPs), and experience of successfully delivering therapeutic interventions in research studies, preferably with psychedelics
  • Experience delivering Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and/or Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
  • Experience of working in multi-disciplinary mental health services 
  • Ability to balance the pressures of research and therapeutic responsibilities
