Eric Garland, PhD, Director of the Center on Mindfulness and Integrative Health Intervention Development (C-MIIND), Distinguished Professor, and Associate Dean for Research at the University of Utah, is seeking postdoctoral fellows to support federally-funded, biobehavioral clinical research on mindfulness, psychedelic-assisted therapy, neurofeedback, and other integrative therapies for addiction and chronic pain. C-MIIND, which currently oversees more than $40 million in grants funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Department of Defense (DOD), and Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI). In particular, fellows will help conduct randomized clinical trials (RCTs) and neuroscience research on Mindfulness-Oriented Recovery Enhancement (MORE), a manualized intervention for addiction, stress-related conditions, and chronic pain. For additional information on MORE and current research, see https://drericgarland.com/about-m-o-r-e/.Postdoctoral fellows will assist with the following duties: a) manuscript preparation from existing datasets; b) clinical data collection; c) psychophysiological data collection (autonomic, EEG, fNIRS, and fMRI measures); d) data analysis; and e) designing and implementing new translational research studies. Postdoctoral fellows with a clinical degree will be trained to implement MORE and other mindfulness-based interventions, and will then deliver mindfulness and other interventions (e.g., psychedelic-assisted therapy) in clinical trials. Fellows will also have opportunities to coauthor multiple scientific articles from existing primary datasets and write federal grants leveraging the resources and interdisciplinary connections, which extend into Psychiatry, Psychology, Neuroscience, Oncology, Public Health, Anesthesiology, Family Medicine, Nursing, and Social Work, among other departments.Dr. Garland is seeking fellows with a PhD in Clinical Psychology, Neuroscience, Social Work, Health Psychology, or a related discipline. Applicants must have good scientific writing skills with a solid publication record, clinical or neuroscience research experience, and strong data analytic skills. Applicants with clinical experience (e.g., mental health, addiction, and/or chronic pain populations), psychophysiological data analysis (e.g., EEG, HRV ,fNIRS, MRI, eye tracking, etc.), computer/data science skills, machine learning, and/or previous study coordination experience on Federally funded studies will be given preference. Duties will include Responding to patient inquiries both on the phone and over email, answering their questions about our services, screening potential clients for contraindications, making appointments for sessions with our providers, and kindly and patiently holding their hands each step of the way, as needed, through this process.Getting new clients entered into our EMR, Osmind, sending intake forms and consent forms, and ensuring these are returned and entered into the record.Pre-building notes for providers using information gathered during the screening and from the intake forms, ensuring that data is entered accurately.Pulling data from the Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP) and uploading into the chart before clients are seen by the prescriber.Sending clients payment links prior to services being rendered and keeping track of payments received or outstanding.Generating superbills for clients who desire this.Onboarding new clients to our data collection outcomes study.Scheduling medical evaluations for retreat applicants which includes the same steps as above for any new client (EMR, consents, PMP, prebuild note).Coordinating shipments records from the pharmacy and keeping an accurate log of our supplies.At this time this job can be done fully remotely. We anticipate the job will fill 10-15 hours per week to start and that it will grow steadily from there, with the possibility that this may become a full time job within the next year or so.
